About Still & Field

We publish slow, useful stories about the places we pass through and the things we live with.

Still & Field is an independent journal about paying better attention to ordinary life. We publish practical essays and reflective notes on places, food, books, photography, home and the outdoors.

Our aim is simple: useful writing with enough room for detail. A story may begin with a weekend bag, a market table, a notebook or a path across open ground, then follow what that small subject can teach us about choosing, noticing and living with less rush.

Made for unhurried reading

We prefer specific observations to grand declarations, and adaptable ideas to rigid rules. The journal is intentionally small so each piece can stand on its own and still feel connected to the rest.

How we work

Three editorial principles

  1. Specific over sweeping. We prefer one well-observed street, room, recipe or book to a list of things you “must” do.
  2. Useful without rushing.Practical details matter, but so does the pleasure of reading them.
  3. Ordinary is enough.A walk, a shelf, a market bag or a quiet morning can hold a complete story.
